Citrea
Citrea is a rollup that makes use of the zero-knowledge technology that has been applied to Bitcoin's blockspace. This allows applications to be developed directly on Bitcoin without changing the consensus rules. With its introduction of a Type 2 zkEVM, transactions are processed in batches and concise zero-knowledge proofs are provided for simple verification. These proofs guarantee data availability and permissionless access; they are encoded in Bitcoin and optimistically validated by BitVM. Furthermore, Citrea offers support for lightweight nodes using STARKs, making blockchain verification simple. Additionally, it creates a two-way peg with Bitcoin that minimizes trust by utilizing $BTC as its native token, which Citrea refers to as $cBTC.
